Campus Security

SFU Vancouver campus has Security stationed in all its buildings with dedicated hours from 6 am to 11pm. Security can be contacted on a 24/7 basis through Harbour Centre (HC) at (778) 782-5029.

At the SFU Vancouver campus, Security is recognized as the first responders for all emergency situations on campus. Call Security on the Emergency line 25252. This line can be used to report any suspicious persons or incidents.

Serious Incident: In the event of a serious incident on the Vancouver campus, users should contact campus security on the Emergency line 25252. This will initiate two levels of response:

  1. Primary incident response and management by Concord Security at the Vancouver Campus.
  2. Tactical critical incident response provided through Vancouver Police Department

The tactical response is coordinated to facilitate evacuation of those in the threat area and to isolate the threat immediately and will be managed by the Vancouver Police Department with our cooperation.

Basically, you need to use common sense. The simplest advice is to stay in your classroom or office and lock the door, if possible, until instructed to do otherwise. Most of our classrooms have a house phone connected to Security. Use the 25252 Emergency number cited on the faceplate.

Safe Walk program: From any SFU Vancouver building, you can request a Safe Walk from Security to any destination within a one block radius of that building. This Safe Walk station is located at the main concourse of the Harbour Centre building. Those who wish to use the Safe Walk program can meet at the Safe Walk station at every 30 minutes on the hour or half hour.

Harbour Centre's dedicated Safe Walk hours are from:

Monday to Thursday 6 pm to 10 pm
Friday 6 pm to 8:30 pm

or please contact Security at (778) 782-5029 for this service.

SFU's 611 Alexander Location: Special transportation arrangements have been made through the Safe Walk Program from this location to the Harbour Centre campus. More information is available for students, faculty and staff from the technician on site at 611 Alexander or by calling Security at (778) 782-5029 for after hours assistance.

If you have any further questions or concerns related to your personal safety or security while on campus, you can contact Ann Cowan, Executive Director, Vancouver Campus (778) 782-5074
