Gwynne Dyer to launch Vancouver Speaker Series

Renowned author, journalist and historian Gwynne Dyer will serve as the inaugural presenter for the launch of the Simon Fraser University Vancouver Speaker Series. His lecture entitled The New Middle East will be held on Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. at the Djavad Mowafaghian Cinema at SFU’s Goldcorp Centre for the Arts.
Dyer has worked as a freelance journalist, columnist, broadcaster and lecturer on international affairs for more than 20 years, and was originally trained as a historian.
His first television series ‘War’ aired in more than 45 countries in the mid-80’s, while the 1994 series’ The Human Race and Protection Force each won Gemini awards. Dyer’s column regularly appears in over 50 international newspapers, including Vancouver’s Georgia Straight.
During his lecture Dyer will discuss the recent democratic revolutions sweeping through the Arab World and will investigate a host of issues, including the problem of poverty, radicalism, and the struggle for power in the region.
The Georgia Straight’s Charlie Smith will moderate Dyer’s lecture and discussion panel.
